Career Day

Over the last wee while we have been looking at the cost of moving out of home, and what sort of income is required to meet daily living expenses. It has been a real eye opener for some students and there may be a few people living at home longer than they thought! The next part of this was to look at career paths. Students have explored a career of interest to them, using the careers NZ website quizzes to help. Today they ran a career day for students from Tawhirimatea. Careers ranged from working at Rebel Sport to marine biologist, pilot to vet. We had authors, architects, rock musicians, you tube bloggers, a Prime Minister, screen printer artists and early childhood teachers. Plus a whole lot more. Personal trainer was a popular exhibit, as was anything that had a hand out. Students who produced pamphlets quickly ran out and the year 6 students asked really great questions.

Police looking for a man who took a hitchhiker

This happened in Central Otago and the person was a 22 year old woman who was picked up at between 8am and 9am around school time which would be a bit worrying if she had kids but she was hitchhiking.

The weird thing was the person who picked her up was being looked for, which makes it even scarier that she might have been picked up by a murderer or a wanted man.  Also the woman was subjected to unwanted advances .

She got dropped off Cromwell where it was stormy.   A photographer saw and thought “poor girl, if only I was heading that way I could help her  And so the photographer called the police to help her which is a nice thing to do and by the sounds of it the photographer was a nice guy.  He was with 2 kids and a nice labrador dog.  The 2 kids were twin sisters .

enviro group progress

Today I will be talking about the plans for the enviro group and what will happen in the future :o

So to start off, the group is starting to do the 1st step, a gazebo. Now the cool thing about it is that it is going to have mosaic paths around it, I think, in the shape of a Sun . Also, the inside is going to be the size of the tractor tire ,outside on the field where the future garden will be.

To add onto that, we had to dig the ground where the sun will be and that took a LONG time to do. It hurt from bending over so much. It hurts a lot more than Mr Redmond’s fitness group!

The maker of the envirogroup, Mrs Stevenson, said, “ You may think so far this has been boring with just doing meeting after meeting BUT now we are getting into the fun stuff what we we’re made to do, garden.” Now I thought that was a good speech.
